Nampa, Idaho - Senior distance runner Becky Wade placed 13th in the 5000m run at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Boise State, Friday evening.
Wade, from Dallas and a product of Ursuline Academy, finished with a time of 16:33.35. Iowa State's Betsy Saina won the event with a time of 15:38.83, while California's Deborah Maier was second at 15:40.74.
Head coach Jim Bevan on Becky Wade's performance, "Becky ran better than she was seeded, coming in seeded 15th. She really wasn't "on" tonight, but gave a great effort, going out in 5:05 for the mile, the fastest she's gone out all year. I'm proud of her just getting here and running with the best in the nation."
With a 13th-place finish, Wade will earn All-America status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The organization's All-America policy has been updated:
Individuals and relays that score any portion of a team point in an NCAA Track & Field Championship will earn USTFCCCA First-Team All-America honors.
Those individuals and relays that place between nine and 16 overall (including ties) in an NCAA Track & Field Championship will earn USTFCCCA Second-Team All-America honor
