Houston - The Rice women's track and team finished eighth at the 2011 Conference USA Indoor Championship that was held at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse. The Owls totaled 33 points, while first place UCF scored 123.5 points and Tulsa, in second, tallied 76 points.

One major highlight for Rice was Ariana Ince winning the pole vault event. Ince won the competition by snapping her own school-record with a meet record mark of 4.10m/13-5.25. Ince's previous record was 4.07m/13.4.25. Cleona Oliver was sixth as well with a mark of 3.50m/11-5.75.

"I am very proud of Ari, because she has worked hard for this school record," said Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "Rice has a great history of success in the pole vault and now Ari has followed in that tradition. She is a three-time conference champion, a dedicated athlete, a great student and a great person as well."

Keltie John placed 8th in 800m with a time of 2:29.05 and in the 60m hurdles, Kimberly Stanford placed fifth with a time of 8.64 to score four points.

Sarah Agara jumped a season-best in the triple jump to place fourth with a mark of 12.20/40-0.5. Kiri Kendall also posted a season-best to place eighth (11.89m/39-0.25).

Tina Robinson, in the shot put, scored two points for the Owl cause with a season-best mark of 13.05m/42-9.75.

"We were disappointed in not finishing higher this year but we are looking forward to the outdoor season and getting all of our team back that either had no indoor eligibility and have outdoor (Britany Washington, Sarah Lyons, Nicole Mericle) and those that have been injured (Halsey Fowler, Simone Martin and Becky Wade)," said Bevan. "We have others that have been banged up a bit and I really feel like we can be a different team on our track in May at the C-USA Outdoor meet."
