Claire Uke won the shot put, becoming the first Owl to win the C-USA Indoor Shot Put Championship, to lead the Owls on the second and final day of the C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
"We're looking forward to outdoor season," said Rice Head Coach Jim Bevan. "A majority of our athletes had season-bests at the meet, and I was very happy with our efforts, especially in shot put, pole vault and distance medley relay."
Uke out-threw her nearest competition by .90 m, and breaking her previous career-high by 1.51 m. She is the first Rice athlete to win the Indoor Shot Put since the Owls joined C-USA for 2005-06. The only other conference champion in that event was six-time national champion Regina Cavanaugh, who won titles in the Southwest Conference.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Precious Knighton, Lilian Nwora, Imani Mark and Tyneshia McCoy ran a season-best 3:47.50, despite getting bumped on a handoff.
Eleanor Wardleworth finished fifth in the 3000 m run, posting a time of 10:13.54.
The Owls finished in 11th.
