Uke Captures Shot Put Title at Texas A&M Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Rice senior thrower Claire Uke won her third individual shot put title of the indoor season with a winning throw of 16.76m (55-0) on the second day of the Texas A&M Invitational.
A reigning All-American, Uke fended off Texas A&M's Brea Garrett (16.31m) for her seventh career indoor shot put victory and second straight win at the A&M Invitational. Uke now holds the sixth and 10th-best throws in the NCAA shot put this season.
The Owls also got a couple of fourth place finishes from Daisy Ding (triple jump) and Marielle Brisbois (pole vault), as well as a fifth place finish in the 3000m by Eleanor Wardleworth. Ding set a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 12.43m while Brisbois recorded a height of 3.80m in the vault. Wardleworth also set a personal best in the 3000m with a time of 10:06.53.
Rice will next take part in the Houston Tune-Up hosted by the University of Houston next Saturday, Feb. 14. The Owls will then compete at the C-USA Indoor Championships Feb. 25-26.
