Roper Wins 5000m at Texas A&M Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Rice sophomore distance runner Cali Roper won her second career individual 5000m at the Texas A&M Invitational in as many years on Friday, beating her next closest competitor by nearly 37 seconds at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
Roper, from Conroe, Texas, backed up last season's victory in the 5000m at the Texas A&M Invite with a time of 17:11.68, easily topping last year's winning mark of 17:30.81.
Friday consisted of just a handful of events and the Owls were represented in both the pentathlon and distance medley relay. Junior Leslie Schilsky set a personal best with 3207 points to place seventh in the pentathlon while freshman Amanda Pasko finished ninth with 2878 points. Schilsky won the 800m in a time of 2:26.02 and placed third in the long jump.
The distance medley relay team consisting of Schaich, Tessa Consedine, Hannah Kay and Madi McLellan placed fourth with a mark of 12:09.57.
Rice will be back at it tomorrow at the A&M Invitational with competition getting started at 1 p.m. There will be live video streaming beginning at 3:30 p.m. on the WatchESPN app through the SEC Network+.
