COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Rice junior Katie Jensen secured her first career indoor victory on Friday by winning the 5000m on the opening day of the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M.
Jensen, from The Woodlands, set an indoor PR with a time of 16:58.55 to win the 14-competitor field and was 28 seconds better than the second place finisher. The victory by Jensen came one day before she was to take her Law School Admission Test.
The Owls also raced their distance medley relay team (Hannah Kay, Akuira Young, Elsa Racasan, Cali Roper) for the first time this indoor season and placed second with a time of 11:52.89, ahead of both Texas A&M and Houston.
In addition, senior Leslie Schilsky placed seventh amongst collegiate competition in the pentathlon with 3237 points while Amanda Pasko finished 11th with 2913 points.
A larger contingent of Owls will compete on day two of the Charlie Thomas Invitational Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m.
