Owls Win Distance Medley Relay at Howie Ryan Invite
Jan. 30, 2015
HOUSTON, Texas - After a two week hiatus, the Rice Owls women's track and field team returned to competition Friday for day one of the Howie Ryan Invitational at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Although Rice had just a handful of competitors on day one the Owls made the most of their opportunities. The distance medley relay team consisting of Hannah Kay, Tessa Consedine, Allie Schaich and Madi McLellan took first place with a time of 12:14.49, squeaking past Texas State's time of 12:17.49. McLellan, a freshman from the Woodlands, made up nearly nine seconds on the last leg to help secure the victory.
Senior vaulter Marielle Brisbois set a PR and indoor best mark of 3.85m (12-07.50) to place third in the pole vault. For Brisbois it was her first time competing in two years. Freshman Ayane Rossano and senior Alicia Janke each cleared 3.55m (11-07.75) in the pole vault, finishing 9th and 10th, respectively.
A majority of the Owls will compete on Saturday with competition beginning at 9 a.m.
