The Rice women's track and field posted excellent results, including a near school-record in the 60m dash at the Houston Indoor Invitational on Friday inside Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus.
The Owls had two top-eight finishers in the 60m hurdles. Kim Stanford was sixth (8.76), while Luci Cincinatis placed seventh at 8.85. In the 60m dash, senior Shakera Reece ran a strong race to place second. Her time of 7.39 was a shade behind Gloria Asumnu's (adidas) time of 7.33 and is .01 behind the Rice record set by TaNisha Mills in 1997 (7.38). Reece was also second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.53.
Three Owls placed in the top 10 in the 800m run, with sophomore Keltie John leading the way with a first place finish (2:10.65). Vicki Walker was fourth (2:13.67), while sophomore Sophie Peeters was 10th (2:21.06).
Rice dominated the 3000m run with four placing in the top six. Becky Wade was second (9:41.01), while Britany Williams (9:42.77) and Marie Thompson (10:05.53) were third and fourt respectively. Fowler ran sixth in a time of 10:13.42.
