HOUSTON - The Rice Owls women's T&F team began the indoor season on Friday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial meet, held at the University of Houston's Yeoman Field House, and posted seven top-three finishes.
Rice finished claimed the top three spots in the 3000m, highlighted by a first place result of 10:16.18 from senior Elsa Racasan. Sophomore Khayla Patel finished second (10:19.94) in the event while feshman Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi placed third (10:24.46) in her indoor collegiate debut.
Sophomore Michelle Fokam had a strong season-opener by recording indoor PR's in both the long jump and triple jump. Fokam was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump (5.75m/18-10.50) and placed fifth in the triple jump (11.80m/38-08.75).
Sophomore distance runner Hannah Bablak turned in the best collegiate time in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 2:23.62.
Redshirt sophomore Hannah Jackson established an indoor PR in the 60m dash and finished fifth overall with a time of 7.54.
Freshman KC Nwadei also had a strong performance in the jumps, placing fourth (1.58m/5-02.25) in the high jump.
In addition, assistant coach Lennie Waite won both the mile (4:49.19) and 800m (2:17.50).
The Owls will be back in action Jan. 26-27 at the Houston Invitational.
