Beazant Forced to Withdraw from UTSA/ITA Indoor

Nov. 9, 2012

Natalie Beazant was willing, but her ailing right elbow was not able and the Rice sophomore was forced to withdraw from her first round consolation match at the UTSA/ITA Indoor Championship at the Billy Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. on Friday.

Beazant injured her right elbow on a serve in Thursday's loss to Robin Anderson, but trainers gave her the green light to play in her opening consolation match against Petra Januskova of Penn State. However she aggravated the injury during warm-ups as was forced to withdraw.

"Natalie is as tough as nails, so obviously she is disappointed that she wasn't able to play the match today," Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "We had hoped that her elbow would feel better after warming up but, unfortunately, that wasn't the case. We'll get back to Houston, make sure we take care of it and get her ready for the spring season."
