Beazant Splits Matches to End ITA Action

Natalie Beazant split a pair of singles matches and lost her doubles match with Dominique Harmath to close out the Owls action in the 2012 Riviera ITA All America Championship at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

At the same time, their Rice teammates opened play in the Rice Invitational by advancing in eight of ten matches on Friday at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.

Beazant and Harmath opened Friday action by dropping an 8-5 decision to Stacey Tan and Ellen Tsay of Stanford to complete their doubles activity. Beazant then resumed singles playon early Friday afternoon, defeating Lauren McHale of North Carolina 6-4, 6-2. She returned to the singles courts two hours later and dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Mary Anne Macfarlane of Alabama.

Senior Katie Gater led five Owls in singles wins while she teamed with sophomore Liat Zimmerman to register the first of three wins in doubles for the Owls.

Zimmerman, Solomlya Zinko, Kimberly Anicete and Stephanie Nguyen all advanced in singles, while doubles pairings of Anicente and Danniela Trigo and Zinko and Nguyen all advanced in doubles.

Play resumes at 8:30 on Saturday at Jake Hess.
