Beazant and Harmath Set to Open ITA Women's All American Play

Oct. 3, 2012

Rice's Natalie Beazant and Dominique Harmath will open play in the main dray of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships on Thursday at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

Beazant and Harmath, who are seeded eighth in the event, will play at 11 a.m. on Thursday against a team who will advance from Wednesday's qualifying rounds. They earned the #8 seed in the event after finishing the 2012 spring season ranked 20th, the best finish ever by an Rice women's doubles team.

They closed their campaign by winning the first NCAA doubles match in school history with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Alabama's Antonia Foehse & Mary Anne Macfarlane. If the seeds hold through the first round, Harmath and Beazant would face Macfarlane and her new doubles partner at Alabama, Alexa Guarachi.

Beazant, the 2012 Conference USA Player of the Year, qualified for the singles main draw on the strength of a preseason #15 ranking in singles. She is slated to face Nicole Bartnik of Columbia at 12:45 on Thursday in her opener match.

This year's singles field features 15 returning All Americans, Texas A&M's Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar, the top seed into the tournament who was one of only two players to defeat Beazant during a 25-2 spring campaign which saw her finish 27th in the final Campbell's/ITA poll.
