Durkin Named Spirit of Service Winner

Junior tennis player Savannah Durkin is one of 14 Conference USA student-athletes honored for their work in the community as the spring winners of the conference’s Spirit of Service Award.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport. The Spirit of Service Award will be presented three times throughout the season, The spring honorees represent their schools while competing in baseball, golf, softball, tennis and outdoor track.

Durkin earned second team all-conference honors in singles and third team honors in doubles while helping the Owls capture an unprecedented fifth consecutive C-USA Championship. She won a career-high 12 dual matches and delivered the clinching point as the Owls downed FIU to capture the C-USA crown. Her clinching performance ran her career mark in C-USA championship play to 8-0.

Off the court, Durkin is actively involved with the Houston chapter of the SPCA as well as volunteering at the Star of Hope Mission. She is a three-time member of the Conference USA Honor Roll.
