Beazant's Strong Play Earns C-USA Honor
Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week
March 5, 2013
Natalie Beazant has been named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week after a dominant showing in a pair of dual matches last week.
Beazant capped off a perfect four-match week by defeating two-time All-American and 28th-ranked Aeriel Ellis of Texas, 6-3, 6-1, in singles and teaming with Dominique Harmath to defeat 12th-ranked Breaunna Addison and Noel Scott, 9-7, to provide two of Rice's four points in its 4-3 upset of the 29th-ranked Longhorns in Austin, Texas.
The Longhorns' doubles team marked the highest ranked opponent Beazant and Harmath have defeated in their two seasons. It also marked Rice's first win over Texas in the 25-match series.
Beazant opened the week's action with a 6-0, 6-1 win over UTSA's Jacobea Junger on Thursday as the Owls cruised to a 7-0 win.
Beazant lost only five games in her two singles wins for the week and over her last four matches, she has won 48 of 57 games.
Overall, the 2012 C-USA Player of the Year has won six straight singles matches to run her record to 8-3 and she and Harmath have won six straight in doubles to run their record to 10-2.
This is her first Athlete of the Week honor of the season and fourth for her career. She is the second Owl to be honored this year. Her doubles partner, Dominique Harmath was honored for the week ending January 29.
