The Rice women’s tennis team opens a jam-packed Saturday of athletic events on campus when the 50th ranked Owls host #8 Texas Tech at the George R. Brown Tennis Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Saturday’s tennis match kicks off a day that will also see Rice and HBU face off in baseball at 1 p.m. followed by Senior Day basketball games for the women’s (vs. North Texas at 4:30) and men’s (UTSA, 7 p.m.).
The Owls are coming off a 4-3 loss at #43 LSU on Sunday. Texas Tech is currently 7-2 on the year and are coming off a 4-0 win at #37 NC State on Sunday. The Lady Raiders only losses this year came against North Carolina and George during the ITA Indoor nationals.
Rice’s Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang are ranked 16th in doubles while Texas Tech will counter with Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici, who are ranked 21st. Tech as four players ranked in singles: #7 Gabriela Talaba, #41 Felicity Maltby, Dovak #72 and Federici #98.
Rice leads the all-time series 14-9, but Tech has won the last six meetings. Rice’s last win in the series was a 6-1 victory on Valentine’s Day, 2010.

Alison Ho and Priya Niezgoda extended their doubles winning streak to seven matches with a win over the 33rd ranked team in the nation, but #8 Texas Tech became the first team to take the doubles point against the Owls this year and rode that momentum to a 4-0 win on Sunday
