The Rice women’s tennis will look to defeat a second team from SEC in the last two weeks when they take on LSU in Baton Rouge at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The 39th ranked Owls and Tigers (8-1) are meeting for the 16th time overall and for the first time at the LSU Tennis Complex, which opened in the fall of 2015. Rice has won five of the last six meetings between the two, but the Tigers won the last meeting, taking a 5-2 decision in their George R. Brown Tennis Center debut in 2016. The Owls hold a 9-6 lead in in the series.

Tigers Fight off Owls
Katherine Ip delivered a dominant performance and Savannah Durkin shook off a first set loss to pick up a win, but 18th ranked LSU used its experience to fight off the challenge from the Rice women’s tennis team and take a 5-2 decision at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in one half of the second annual “Double Trouble” dual event.
Rice has won its last three, including a 4-3 win over Texas A&M on Valentine’s Day. They are 2-2 on the road so far in 2018.
Rice senior Savannah Durkin was named the C-USA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week last week after picking up key wins in the Owls 4-3 wins over the Aggies and Houston. She leads the Owls with a 6-1 mark in singles this spring, followed by freshmen Michaela Haet (5-1) and Anna Bowtell (5-0).
Bowtell has some familiarity with the Tiger program, as her older brother Mark won 65 singles matches for the Tigers in his career from 2008-12.
