The Rice women's tennis team opens up their first extended home action of the 2018 dual campaign on Wednesday at 2 p.m. when they host undefeated Texas A&M in a home match for the first time since 2008. All students in attendance on Wednesday will receive an Owl valentine with Skittles.
Wednesday's Valentine's Day meeting is the first of three consecutive home matches for the Owls (3-2), who are coming off a split of matches last weekend in the Dallas-Fort Worth area last weekend.
The homestand continues on Saturday when the Owls will host Houston in the first dual between the schools since 2011, and concludes with a match against Texas State on February 23.
The Owls snapped a nine-match losing streak against the 15th ranked Aggies by taking a 4-1 decision last year in College Station. The last meeting in Houston came in 2008 when the Aggies fought back a challenge from the Owls to take a 4-3 decision. The Owls last win at home over the Aggies came in 2000.
Rice enters play with the 17th ranked doubles combination of Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang. The Aggies lineup features senior Domenica Gonzalez, who is currently ranked 67th in singles as of the last Oracle/ITA rankings. An update to the rankings will be released on Wednesday.
