Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt returned to the courts where she earned All American honors in college, but the 12th ranked UCLA Bruins proved to be less than hospitable, blanking the Owls 7-0 on Monday afternoon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on the UCLA campus. Schmidt was a four -year letter winner for the Bruins from 1997-2000 and earned All America honors in 1997.

Due to travel concerns, the order of the match was switched with the singles matches being played first. The Bruins raced out to a 6-0 lead, taking each of the singles matches in straight sets. Rice's lone win came at No. 2 doubles, where the Owls duo of Jessica Jackson and Alex Rasch, who were ranked 44th at the start of the season, defeated Noelle Hickey and Nina Pantic.

The Owls will return to the court on Friday when they host Arizona at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium at noon. They will also host 73rd ranked Texas Tech on Sunday at 11 a.m.
