The Rice women's tennis team's pair of fall signees for the 2014-15 campaign have been ranked by The Tennis Recruiting Network and Solfire as the ninth-best recruiting class their winter recruiting class roundup.
Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt signed Savannah Durkin of Miramar, Florida and Lindsey Hodge of Alpharetta, Georgia during the fall signing period and the pair of standouts allowed the Owls to receive a total of 409 points in the vote of media and junior tennis experts. Rice finished just ahead of Northwestern (380) and Alabama (351). Florida was the unanimous selection as the top class, finishing with 650 points.
Schools received 25 points for each first-place vote, 24 points for each second-place vote, on down to 1 point for each 25th-place vote. The panelists did not consider incoming transfer students in their voting - and also did not consider players that started college in January.
The 22nd ranked Owls are coming off a narrow 5-2 lost to top-ranked Stanford on Saturday in front of 650 fans at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. They will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Waco to take on #19 Baylor on Saturday at 1 p.m.
