Owls Open 2013 Season Ranked 29th

The Rice women's tennis team will open their 2013 dual season sharing the #29 in the initial ITA Division I Women's Team Rankings which were released on Thursday. Elizabeth Schmidt's Owls will open their 2013 dual campaign on January 18 1 p.m. when they host Lamar at Jake Hess Tennis Stadiu.

The Owls share the 29th spot in the poll with Arizona and open the 2013 season ranked four spots behind defending C-USA champion Tulsa. C-USA foes Tulane (55) and Memphis (58) also appear in the initial poll.

Sophomore Natalie Beazant, the 2012 Conference USA Player of the Year, is ranked 50th in singles to open dual action and 56th in doubles with teammate Dominique Harmath.

The Owls, who are coming off their first appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2012, opened the 2012 season ranked 71st in the nation and rose as high as 28th during the season before completing the season at #30.
