Top-seed Natalie Beazant won in straight sets while Liat Zimmermann upset the fourth seed to the quarterfinals in the singles main flight at the Longhorn Invitational held at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin. Solomiya Zinko advanced in the second flight thanks to a bye to highlight first round action
Beazant dispatched of Sydney Rider of Wisconsin 6-2, 6-2 in her opening match and will face Lina Padegimaite of the host Longhorns at 10:30 on Saturday. The winner of that match will advance to the singles semifinals at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Zimmerman downed fourth-seeded Rebecca Pedrazzi of Wichita State, 6-2, 6-3 and will face Wisconsin's Lauren Burich at 10:30 on Saturday.
Zinko will open play on Saturday in the quarters when she faces Wichita State's Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul.
Beazant teamed with Stephanie Nguyen in doubles to advance to the semifinals with an 8-6 win over Wisconsin's Lauren Chypyha and Helen Rabot They will face McNeese State's Sara Castellano and
Klaudia Gawlik on Saturday morning. They advanced to the match against the Owls with a pair of wins, including an 8-3 verdict over Zinko and Jane Stewart in an opening round match.
