Alison Ho and Solomiya Zinko won for the second time in as many days to advance to their respective singles flight finals of the 2013 Cougar Classic head at the John E. Hoff Courts on the campus of the University of Houston on Saturday
Ho dropped Rocio Martin Fernandez of Houston when Fernandez withdrew because of injury in third set to advance to the finals of the No. 4 singles while Zinko breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Taylor LeFridge or Prairie View to reach the title match of the No. 6 singles competition.
Rice's two other first round singles winners fell in three sets on Saturday. Dominique Harmath fell in three sets to Lynn Kiro of Texas Tech 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in No. 1 singles, while Jane Stewart lost to Jona Ladutska of Northwestern Louisiana State 6-4., 6-3 in the No. 7 bracket.
In Saturday doubles play, Harmath and Zinko moved into the finals of No. 2 doubles with an 8-3 win over Rashmi Teltumbde and Lynn Kiro of Texas Tech. Zimmermann and Ho moved to the consolation finals at No. 1 doubles with a tight 9-8 (6) win over Jessica Kahts and Shannon Beckett of Texas State, while Nguyen and Stewart dropped Valeria Terentyeva and Kateryna Bugayenko of SFA 8-2 to move to the consolation finals.
