Priya Niezgoda and Sophie Moenster each picked up two wins to lead the Rice women’s tennis team to wins in seven of eight singles matches on the second day of TCU’s Haunted Horned Frog Classic in Fort Worth on Saturday.
“Really solid effort today by the five Owls here at TCU,” Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. “They not only showed their resilience by the way they rebounded from yesterday but the competitive spirit and willingness to work was top-notch from start to finish in every match.”
Niezgoda lost only give games while sweeping to straight set wins over Middle Tennessee’s Maria Josefina Zehnder (6-0, 6-2) and Texas A&M’s Eva Paalma (6-3, 6-0). Moenster dropped Texas A&M’s Julia Ivascu (6-2, 7-6) and Northwestern State’s Judit Castillo (6-4, 6-3).
