The Rice women’s tennis team failed to capitalize on some early opportunities as they were shut out in the opening round of doubles of the Haunted Horned Frog Classic in Fort Worth on Friday.
Playing in a round robin format against Baylor, Middle Tennessee, Northwestern State and Texas A&M, the Owls dropped all six doubles matches on the first day of competition.
“From the end results, it looks like we got beat up pretty badly out there in doubles today. But, the reality is we had several opportunities that we didn't capitalize on,” Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. “That comes down to consistent execution. And, that starts with me doing a better job getting our doubles teams in the right mindset....a mindset where we are more disciplined, more committed to our shots, and more determined with our movement. We will get there,” she added.
