Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang advanced to the semifinals of the main draw doubles, while fellow senior Savannah Durkin reached the semifinals of the consolation singles to highlight action for Rice at the 2017 ITA Texas Regional Championships Presented by Oracle in Fort Worth on Sunday.
The fourth seeds entering the weekend, Hodge and Zhang are one of three seeded pairings remaining in contention for the title after defeating seventh seeds Anna Turati and Petra Granic of Texas, 8-5 on Sunday. They will face SMU’s unseeded duo of Sarai Monarrez and Ana Luisa Perez Lopez, who upset second seeds Domenica Gonzalez and Eva Paalma of Texas A&M, at 10 a.m. Monday.
The winner will advance to face the winner of Monday’s second semifinal between top seeds Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze of North Texas and eighth seeds Marta Perez Mur and Dani Wagland of Texas.
Savannah Durkin advance to the consolation semis with wins over Jordan Henry of ACU and Lana Rush of Texas Tech. She will take on Texas A&M’s Dorthea Hviding at 10 a.m. on Monday, looking for a berth in the final against the winner of the match between Matea Zemunik of Incarnate Word and Livia Kraus of Baylor, who outlasted Rice’s Michaela Haet, 4-6; 6-4; 11-9 in the quarterfinals.
