Anicete Leads Owls with Singles Win
Rain shortens Rice Invitational

Kimberly Anicete race to a straight set win to capture the Rice Invitational second flight singles title to highlight the final day of action at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium which was shortened after heavy showers rolled through Houston early Saturday afternoon.
Anicete dispatched of Northwestern State's Tatiana Larina, 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday morning to capture her flight's title. Rice sophomore Jane Stewart also reached her flight's singles final, but she dropped a three-set match to Shannon Beckett of Texas State, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Stephanie Nguyen and Alison Ho ground out a rugged 8-7 win over Kaysie Hermsdorf and Erin Walker of Abilene Christian to advance to the finals of the second doubles flight, but all remaining doubles matches were halted due to rain.
Natalie Beazant and Dominique Harmath will be in action this week when the compete in the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California. Beazant, who is currently ranked 21st in the nation, has qualified for the main draw in singles and will join Harmath in the main draw in doubles. The duo enters the competition ranked 10th in the country.
