IRVING, Tex. -- Junior Casey Clark recorded two top-50 national times last week and has been named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week the league office announced Tuesday from its headquarters in Irving, Tex. Old Dominion junior Rachel Eckert was named C-USA Diver of the Week.
Clark won three individual events to lead the Owl swimmers on the final day of competition at the program's own Rice Invitational Oct. 26 at the Aquatics Center Competition Pool. The Spring, Texas, native posted a win over 19 other competitors in the 100-butterfly (55:45) - the 38th-best NCAA time this season -- and then came back three events later to lead a 1-2-3-4 Rice finish in the 100-backstroke with a time of 57.90.
She then made it three-for-three with a convincing 2:02.46 victory in the 200-butterfly, another top-50 effort on the national list. Clark also swam on three of Rice's winning relays over the weekend, including the lead leg of the 400-free, the butterfly leg of the 400-medley and the 800-free. Her intermediate time on the 400-free relay (51.90) is the fastest 100 in the conference this season. This is the second Swimmer of the Week of the season for Clark and the third of her career.
