IRVING, Texas – Rice’s Lauren Rhodes has been named the Conference USA Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced from its headquarters in Irving, Texas, on Wednesday (Oct. 11).
Over the weekend Rhodes blazed to a pair of individual wins in the freestyle sprints at the Owls’ home invitational meet vs. the University of Houston and Incarnate Word. She won the 50-free with an early-season 23.31 that is the 16th fastest time in the nation. Rhodes won the 100-free with a 51.46 that is among the NCAA’s Top 50 marks of 2017-2018. The Charlotte, N.C., native also swam on all four of Rice’s winning relays, including the 200- and 400-free, and the 200- and 400-medley. She swam the second leg of Rice’s 200-freestyle relay that posted a 1:33.37 for the NCAA’s No.7 ranked sprint relay. Rhodes was the anchor leg of the Owls’ 400-medley relay that registered the No. 9 time in the NCAA with a 3:47.50.
