Rice's Casey Clark swam a 1:02.38 in the morning preliminary round of the 100-meter butterfly Monday (June 25) at the U.S. Olympic Trials. The Owl standout from Spring, Tex., finished 108th out of the top 162 women's swimmers in the United States. She did not advance to the 100-butterfly's finals scheduled for later in the evening.
Neither Clark's nor Rice's full-connection to the Trials, where a chance to make the 2012 Olympic Team is on the line, is finished just yet. Clark will be back to compete in the 200-meter freestyle on Wednesday. Fellow Rice swim star Erin Flanigan also competes in two events at the Trials with the 400-freestyle and 200-butterfly.
The U.S. Olympic Swim Trials is structured to run like swim events in the upcoming London Olympics. The trials, under the direction of USA Swimming, is set for June 25 to July 2 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb. Entrants will have to advance through three separate rounds for a chance to make the 2012 United States Olympic Swim Team.
The remaining schedules for the Owl duo at the trials is as follows:
June 26 - Flanigan in 400-meter freestyle
June 27 - Clark in 200-meter freestyle
June 28 - Flanigan in 200-meter butterfly
