HOUSTON - The Rice swim team earned Scholar All America status for the Fall 2011 semester by the Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the organization announced this week.

No less than 24 swimmers on the Owl roster combined for a composite team grade point average of 3.42 during the Fall semester. Rice's team G.P.A. tied for the 18th-highest in the nation among all Division I women's teams. The Owl swimmers had the best team GPA of any Division I swim team in the state of Texas, including both women's and men's programs. Earlier this month Rice's Shelby Bottoms, Alex O'Brien and Danielle Spence were all named the Conference USA All-Academic Swim Team. At the recent 2012 C-USA Championship meet, Rice placed second in the league with two individual champions (in the 400-IM and mile events).
