Topeka, Kan. - Rice sophomore Casey Clark finished second in the 100-yard butterfly and Quincy Christian was third in the 400-individual medley to pace the Owls swim team on the second day of action at the Kansas Classic Saturday evening in Topeka, Kan.
Nationally-ranked Notre Dame leads the team scoring with 667.5 points. Meet host Kansas is second with 587.5 while Nebraska is third (452) and Iowa State fourth (286). Rice is still in fifth, but closed the margin to within a single point (286)after a solid day Saturday. Nebraska-Omaha is sixth (122).
Clark first swam the butterfly leg on the Owls' 200-medley relay team that finished sixth with a time of 1:46.90. The Spring, Tex., standout came back to take the second among a field of 49 entries in the 100-fly with a time of 55.96.
Junior Quincy Christian swam a season-best 4:27.21 to finish third out of 33 entries in the 400-IM. Sophomore Erin Flanigan also notched a season best 1:54.46 to win the consolation finals of the 200-freestyle. Sophomore Rachel Moody scored big for the Blue & Gray with a sixth-place in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:06.35. Her time from the morning prelims was a season-best 1:05.77.
Junior Lilly Marrow was 12th overall in the 100-breast with a steady 1:06.83 from the prelims. Clark came back for a 12th place finish in the 100-backstroke after a 58.41 in the prelims.
The six-team meet concludes Sunday with preliminary rounds and championship finals of seven more events.
