Swimmers Lead Home Invitational After Friday's Events
Full Slate of Swimming Action Set For Saturday

HOUSTON - Rice swept both relay events while junior Erin Flanigan won the 500-yard freestyle and sophomore Shelly Patton won the 200-IM to pace the Owl swimmers on the first day of action at Rice Invitational Friday afternoon (Oct. 25) at the Aquatics Center Competition Pool.
Through the first five swim races of the two-day, 18-event meet the Owls are in first place in the overall team standings with 113 points. The University of Houston is second with 61 points while the University of the Incarnate Word is third (34 points).
Not only did Rice win both the 400-medley and 800-freestyle relays, the Owls impressively went 1-2 in both those events while setting a new facility record in the 400-MR with a time of 3:48.24. Individually Patton led a scoring charge in the 200-individual medley where Rice claimed each of the top four spots. The sophomore transfer from Northwestern broke the facility record in the event with a time of 2:04.54. Flanigan won the 500-free with a season-best time of 4:55.87 over a field of 18 other entries.
Saturday's final day of the invitational meet has two different swim sessions. The first session features six individual events with two relays and beginning at 9:30 am. The second session has four individual events and one relay. Saturday's schedule is listed below.
