Swimmers Coast To First Place Finish At Tampa Relays
Owls Post Fastest Time In All 10 Events
Jan. 5, 2013
The Rice swimmers coasted to a meet win Saturday at the Tampa Relays, capping-off Seth Huston's coaching return to his alma mater in dominating fashion.
Huston, a 1988 graduate of the University of Tampa who is in his eleventh year at the helm of the Rice swim program, had the Owls in high-gear. The Blue & Gray won or posted the fastest time in each of the day's ten relays. The relay format is slight change from the traditional NCAA dual meet.
Rice outdistanced meet host Tampa, the No. 10 ranked Division II team in the country, by a score of 126-98 for first place in the seven-team field. Individually Casey Clark and Cora McKenzie swam on four of the winning Rice relays. Erin Flanigan, Marissa Konicke and Karina Wlostowska were each on three winning relays.
The Owl swimmers next return to action on Jan. 25-26. Rice competes against LSU and Conference USA foes Tulane and the University of Houston in the annual Quad Meet. LSU hosts the two-day, 18-event, meet in Baton Rouge, La. The Quad Meet is Rice's final competition before the C-USA Championships in February.
