Owls Compete at NCAA Championship Meet This Week
2013-2014: Conference USA Academic Honor Roll; Won the program's Natalie Kirchhoff Inspiration Award (presented annually for the season's most singular team-lifting moment at a meet or during practice)... Received the Inspiration Award, and was also named the CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week and C-USA Swimmer of the Week (Feb. 5) for her (then) school record-breaking 1:01.71 in the 100-breaststroke at the annual Quad Meet just prior to the conference championships... Went on to break both school records in the breaststroke and score big for the team in both the C-USA Championships and the inaugural National Collegiate Classic... Swam on two C-USA winning relays and reached the championship final of three conference events... Won the C-USA silver medal and broke a 12-year old school record in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:13.46... Finished fifth in the finals of the 100-breaststroke after breaking her own school record with a 1:01.16 in the morning prelims... Swam the breaststroke on both medley relays that set new school records on the way to conference titles... Placed ninth in the C-USA's 50-free with a career-best 23.37... Scored a total of 77 points at conference, the fifth-highest total on the team... Accounted for 86 of the squad's 582 points at the National Collegiate Classic, the second-most by an Owl... Won the 100-breaststroke (1:01.41) and scored as a member of four relays, including the title-winning 200- and 400-free relays, at the National Collegiate Classic... Swam the lead leg of the third-fastest 400-free relay in school history, posting a career-best 100-split time of 51.35... Showed versatility in the fall with a season-best 100-butterfly of 59.90.
2012-2013: C-USA Academic Honor Roll; Delivered a faster and improved sophomore season to help the Owls win their second league title in the program's history... Scored 23 points at the C-USA Championships... Held-off a hard charge from the competition to finish fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke at the C-USA meet... Swam a career-best 1:03.14 in the morning prelims of the event, the fifth-fastest mark recorded at Rice... Rallied from two spots back to win the consolation finals of the 200-breaststroke with a career-best 2:17.89, the fifth-fastest time in school history... Tied for 21st in the league in the 50-freestyle with a season-best 23.99... Valuable contributor on relays over the dual meet portion of the schedule.
2011- 2012: C-USA Academic Honor Roll; Finished the year as the No. 3 scoring Owl freshman at the C-USA Championships with 26.5 points... Scored in three individual events and one relay at the C-USA meet... Finished tenth in the league's 100-breaststroke with a personal-best 1:04.65... Placed 12th in the 200-breaststroke with a season-best 2:20.35... Both breaststroke times were the third-fastest on the team as a true freshman... Stepped-up and clocked a 23.62 to finish 12th in the 50-freestyle with a career-best 23.62... Swam the third-leg of the 200-freestyle relay that was third in the conference with the fourth-fastest time in school history... One of three true-freshmen on the sprint relay (where her split as the third leg was 22.91)... Best mark in the 100-free was a 53.91 at the Phill Hansel Invitational in the fall.
High School - A 2011 graduate of Memorial High School in Houston... Three-time prep All-American on Mustang relays who helped lead the team to an eighth place finish at the state championships as a senior... Swam the second-fastest 100-breaststroke in school history (1:05.76) to win the regional finals and earn second-team all-state honors... Member of Memorial's record-setting 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays... Coached in swimming by Jason Mauss... Also a four-year starter on the water polo team who earned All-Region honors under coach Mauss... Varsity cheerleader for the Mustangs... Outstanding student who was named an Academic All-America... Member of the National Honor Society... Maintained a 6.19 grade point average on a 6.0 scale... Served as president of the Health Occupational Students of America club.

Personal - Name: Rachel Irene Moody. Born: March 28, 1993, in Houston. Parents: Wright and Nancy Moody of Houston (four sisters). Father was a Rice football letterman from 1969-71 who led the Owls on the offensive line. Chose to attend Rice because of "the high athletic and scholastic standards, the unique multi-cultural atmosphere, and the girls on the team." Rice College: Wiess College
