McKenzie Takes 100-Free With Third-Fastest Mark In Rice History
2013-2014: Conference USA Academic Honor Roll; Dynamic postseason performances helped lead the Owls to meet titles at both the C-USA Championships and the inaugural National Collegiate Classic... Followed-up scoring a team second-best total of 95 points at the C-USA meet with a team-leading 94 points at the National Collegiate Classic... At conference she won the individual title in the 100-yard freestyle, reached the championship final of two other events, swam on three winning relays (two of which set new school records), and reached two NCAA provisional marks... Won the C-USA's 100-free (49.76) and then went even faster (49.55) to claim the NCC's individual title... Had the third-fastest 100-free time in school history, as well as Rice's third-fastest 50-free time (22.90) from the lead leg of the C-USA sprint relay... The 22.90 split is the best mark by an Owl in eight years... After placing fifth in the C-USA's 50-free and then sixth in the 200, she took second in the NCC's 50 and won the 200 (1:48.92)... Swam the anchor leg of the record-setting 200-medley relay... Contributed on a total of four relays at the Classic.
2012-2013: C-USA Academic Honor Roll; Registered a sound and solid debut season of Division I swimming... Scored 26 points at the C-USA Championships to help the Owls win the second league title in the program's history... The 26 points tied for the second-most scored by an Owl freshman... Reached the championship finals of both the C-USA's 100 and 200-yard freestyle events, placing seventh in the 200 after a season-best 1:50.46 in morning prelims... Touched eighth in the 100-free after a season best 50.82 in the prelims... Scored for the Owls in the 50-free with a season-best 23.56 in the prelims... Registered the best mark by any Owl at home in the Competition Pool in the 100-free with a 51.59 in the season-opening dual meet against Kansas... Showed versatility with a steady 56.01 in a timed trial of the 100-butterfly at the C-USA meet.
High School: A 2012 graduate of Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Academy... No swim program at the school, but was a two-year letterwinner for the Knights in both track & field and cross country... All-state honoree in cross country and was the AISA runner-up in 2010... Helped lead the CC team to the state championship in 2009... Won two AISA track & field titles in the 3,200-meters and won state championship in the mile... Earned the Knights' Most Dedicated Award and was the JV state MVP in 2009... Outstanding student who maintained a 4.4 grade point average (weighted scale) for selection to the Headmaster's Honor Roll, National Honors Society and the National Society of High School Scholars...
