Owls Head North More Meets This Weekend
2013-2014: Conference USA Academic Honor Roll; Established new career-bests in three events, including the 100-butterfly (57.03) and the 200-individual medley (2:07.70) at the C-USA Championships, as well as the 100-backstroke (1:00.10) in the fall... Swam a season-best time of 2:05.31 in the 200-butterfly at the C-USA meet that was among the Top 15 marks in the league... Contributed to a variety relays over the course of the year.
2012-2013: C-USA Academic Honor Roll; Posted four new Rice bests in second season on the team, including a 2:07.31 in the 200-yard backstroke at the C-USA Championships... Went 1:02.70 in the 100-backstroke at the annual Quad Meet against LSU, Houston and Tulane... Swam a 26.12 in the 50-freestyle and a 54.24 in the 100-free at the Incarnate Word Invitational.
2011- 2012: Swam a host of events in her first year at the Division I level, but made her biggest contribution in the butterfly... Swam a Rice-best 2:05.06 in the 200-fly at the C-USA Championships, the fourth-best time on the team... Top 100-fly was a season-best 57.16 at the C-USA meet... Also competed in the rugged 400-IM at conference, swimming a season-best 4:35.13... Posted three season-bests while at the Phill Hansell Invitational across town at the University of Houston, including a 56.52 in the 100-freestyle, a 1:02.82 in the 100-backstroke, and a 2:12.65 in the 200-backstroke... Swam a 26.82 in the 50-freestyle at the Incarnate Word Invitational.
High School - The 2011 Valedictorian of Antioch Community High School in Antioch, Illinois... First athlete in school history to qualify for the Illinois state championships all four years, and did so competing individually as ACHS did not field a swim program... Trained with her club team and qualified for the sectionals and state meet as an individual... Earned all-state in the 200-individual medley as a sophomore... Three-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American... Maintained a 4.8 grade point average on a 4.0 scale to finish first in a senior class of 338... National Merit Scholar Commended Student... Spanish National Honor Society... AP Scholar with Distinction.

Personal - Full name: Dominique Alexandra Bessette. Born: July 3, 1993, in Antioch, Ill. Parents: George and Debby Bessette of Antioch (one brother, one sister). Both parents were Division I student-athletes at Indiana State. Father was on the wrestling team (1983-85). Mother was on the Sycamores' gymnastics team (1982-85) and a member of the 1980 national team for The Netherlands. Chose to attend Rice over Vanderbilt, Emory and John Hopkins. Rice College: Duncan
