HOUSTON - Rice sophomore midfielder Jessica Howard was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2011 All-Central Region team.
Already a first team All-Conference USA honoree after a sensational 2011 season for the Owls, Howard finished among the C-USA statistical leaders in goals (8), points (19), shots (57) and game-winning goals (4). Her improved play in the attacking third constantly put opposing defenses under pressure with a .421 shots-on-goal percentage. The Dallas native registered five or more shots in a game six different times and she played 80 or more minutes in a game nine times. Howard led the Blue & Gray in scoring, including four game-winning goals. All three of her assists were on game-winning goals against C-USA foes.
Coaches in the NSCAA's Central voted Howard to the region's third team. She was one of just seven sophomores to earn the honor. Earlier in the season Howard was named the C-USA Player of the Week.
