Dec. 4, 2013
Coaches in the NSCAA's Central Region (consisting of Conference USA, Big 12, Southland and SWAC schools) voted Truong to second team honors and Hughes to the third team. The tandem were both named first team all-conference after combining for 14 of the Owls' 33 goals and 12 of the team's 26 assists.
Truong finished second on the team in minutes as a starter in the midfield, playing more than 96 percent of the team's total time. The Fort Worth, Tex., native tallied five goals with four assists, and had the distinction of scoring goals against both of the respective 2013 C-USA divisional champions in Colorado College and FIU. In three years of Division I soccer, Truong has twice earned all-Central Region honors.
Hughes proved to be a handful for opposing defenders. The sophomore from Ottawa, Ontario, ranked among the conference and national leaders in goals (9), assists (8) and points (26), and among the C-USA leaders in total shots (61). She scored two goals in game three times and took four or more shots in a game eight different times.
Under head coach Nicky Adams this was the third time in as many years that two Owls have earned all-region honors. In 2013 Rice soccer was a No. 4 seed at the C-USA Tournament and selected to host the league's postseason event at Holloway Field. The full list of NSCAA is available at the above link.
