Scott & Ostendorf Named Academic All-America For Women's Soccer

Nov. 18, 2009

TOWSON, Md. -- The Rice senior tandem of Erin Scott and Katelyn Ostendorf have been named 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans for women's soccer, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday (Nov. 18).

Scott was named to the Academic All-America Second Team after maintaining a 4.00 grade point average as a psychology and pre-med double-major in Rice's accelerated curriculum. Scott earned the prestigious award for a second-consecutive year. Last season she became the first Rice soccer player in the program's history to earn Academic All-America honors (as a third-team selection). On the soccer field the forward from Richardson, Tex., led the Owls in assists (4) and shared the team lead in goals (4).

Ostendorf was a Third Team Academic All-America selection after maintaining 4.00 GPA in biochemistry, cell-biology and pre-med. The Zionsville, Indiana, native started 18 times this season as a defender and rarely came out of a game. She played 90 or more minutes 15 different times on the Owls' backline.

Earlier this year Ostendorf and Scott were also two of four Owls named to the Conference USA Women's Soccer All-Academic team. The Rice duo are two of four C-USA soccer players to earn 2009 Academic All-America honors. They are two of only three student-athletes from Texas schools to earn Academic All-America accolades in the University Division.
