Meet the players on the Rice Soccer team in the Q&A feature Just For Kicks. In today's edition sophomore midfielder Jasmine Isokpunwu goes 1-v-1 with the hard-hitting questions.
Full name: Jasmine Eseosa Isokpunwu
My College: Brown
The nicknames my teammates call me is: Well normally, Jas or Jazzy...but then sometimes the names get creative...Jazzy Fizzle, J-Fiz, or Jazzy J. Any one of the five will suffice.
My favorite soccer player is: Didier Drogba (it will never change, so there's no need to continue to ask)
My favorite movies are: Set it Off / Pitch Perfect
My favorite book is: 1984
My favorite web site is: YOUTUBE!! Whew, I could spend hours on that thing.
My favorite CD or music artist is: Myself... I'm kind of a lyrical genius at times... But if we're talking in terms of a more professional setting (because I haven't been discovered yet), I would have to say Drake.
My pet peeve is: SMACKING!! I can't stand it!...Also, when people tap me...I feel like everyone has a name for a reason so people should utilize that wonderful quality.
My favorite snack is: Oooooo, there are sooo many! Well, I really like Rice cakes (no coincidence).
My favorite meal at the Rice servery is: Apple pie. And. Ice cream. I will go to ANY servery on campus if they're serving that. I know it's not a meal, but that's the first thing that popped in my mind. Plus, it suffices as the dairy and fruit servings that you need in your daily diet.
My favorite class at Rice is: Medical Ethincs (Phil 336). I absolutely LOVED that class last year.
I chose to attend Rice because: I knew the education was top of the line and when I came on my unofficial visit, the people were so welcoming. Also the soccer team seemed so close and intertwined; it made me want to be a part of the program.
What I like most about college life at Rice is: The way we handled not having a greek culture is we made up this genius college system that instills the same pride and family bond. It's great! If I don't have anything else in common with someone in my college, I have that we are BROWNIES FOR LIFE! (I'm obviously from Brown College).
I knew I had gone off to college when: I walked in to my morning calculus class slightly late my freshman year and didn't get that awkward "you're tardy" stare from my fellow classmates because the class sizes are so huge here...oh wait, that still happened, on account that the class sizes are actually SMALLER here than my high schools!
I'll be loyal to my Rice College because: Uhhh, BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST COLLEGE!! ...There's actually no other reason that trumps this one.
One athlete (but a non soccer player) I would like to meet is: Sandra Bullock...people would argue that she's not an athlete, but I'd disagree. The things she did in Miss Congeniality looked pretty athletic to me. Plus, she's known for her fierce kick boxing skills.
One person (but a non athlete) I would like to meet is: The producers of the reality MTV shows, so maybe they'll find my life interesting enough to document it. I was thinking of calling it something like "A Day in the Life of My Life in a Day." Borderline genius huh?! Yeah, I go to Rice.
The celebrity who people say I most look like is: Halle Berry... I get it all the time.
When I last looked, I had this many friends on Facebook: Wow, ages ago, I believe I had 500+. I don't really know, I'm not a huge Facebook person anymore.
My favorite person/site to follow on Twitter is: The Rice Athletics Twitter always keeps me nice and updated. Especially when we're traveling and can't watch the football games, it never fails me.
My favorite moment of my soccer career so far: When I scored a game winning goal... by doing a bicycle... in the last 10seconds of the game. Yes, dreams do come true folks.
So far in my career, I've probably been through this many pair of soccer shoes: 10 or 11, at least.
The person who got me interested in soccer was: My Father!
The very first kids' soccer team I ever played for was nicknamed: The Monarchs... "float like a butterfly, STING LIKE A BEE!" That was our motto.
My Rice jersey number is the coolest because: I'm wearing it.
The best soccer advice I ever had was: "You have to experience the sorrows of a loss to truly feel the joys of a victory." Said by my Father after losing a championship game, in which the next year we won.
My favorite sport besides soccer is: Basketball...or track.
The Rice team I like to watch play their sport: Basketball!! Maybe because I like to see the frequent scoring that DOESN'T happen in soccer!
I describe myself as: Awesome...ly...fantastic..ly..GREAT!
My teammates think I ... : can dance, pshhh, I'm fooling them!
Coach Nicky thinks I ... : don't know she tries to swag-jack me sometimes (Definition of Swag-Jack: the action of "jacking" someone's "swag")
My favorite expression Coach Nicky uses is: "DO HER!!" When she's talking about taking someone one-on-one up the line, haha, gets me every time.
Other than myself, the Rice Owl to keep an eye on this season is: Kasey McKenney! She does great things with the ball.
The Rice soccer player with the best non-soccer talent is: Mia, she dances fairly well.
