IRVING, Texas - Rice junior forward Holly Hargreaves has been named the Conference USA Soccer Offensive Player of the Week the league office announced from its headquarters in Irving, Tex., on Monday (Sept. 29). North Texas goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week.
Hargreaves scored a school record four goals in the Owls' 6-0 C-USA victory over Louisiana Tech on Sunday (Oct. 28). She scored three in the first half against the Techsters to record the first Owl hat trick since 2008. Hargreaves then put the Blue & Gray ahead 4-0 with her fourth goal early in the second half.
The New Hope, Pa., native helped Rice soccer finish the opening two-game weekend of conference play with a team-best 12 shots, including nine on-goal for a .750 shots-on-goal percentage. She maintained a steady .333 shooting percentage in 132 total minutes of action. In addition to the Owls' new single-game goals record, Hargreaves also set the new Rice career goals record with 25 in just her third year with the program. This is the second C-USA Offensive Player of the Week award of her career.
Kerestine picked up back-to-back shutouts in wins at home. The goalkeeper had seven saves.
The Rice soccer team improved to 6-1-2 on the season and 2-0-0 in C-USA play. The Owls now have eight-consecutive matches without a loss dating back to August 22. Rice has wrapped-up its weekend homestand and next plays at C-USA foe UTSA on Friday night (Oct. 3).
