IRVING, Texas – For the second time in as many weeks Rice senior Samantha Chaiken has been named the Conference USA Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced from its headquarters in Irving, Texas, on Monday (Sept. 25).
In Rice’s only action last week, Chaiken scored one goal and had an assist on the game-winning goal in Rice’s 2-0 C-USA victory over league foe Louisiana Tech on Thursday (Sept. 21). Not only did Chaiken direct the flow of play from the midfield, she led all players in the match with five shots - including two that were on goal as she continues to rank among the Rice and C-USA leaders. Chaiken maintained a .400 shots-on-goal percentage while playing all 90 minutes of the match. She had the assist on Rebecca Keane’s game-winning goal in the 13th minute.
In eight games this year Chaiken leads Rice Soccer in shots (29) and shots-on-goal (12), and she as a total of ten points from scoring four goals with two assists. In her career she has started all 59 Rice games in which she has played. Chaiken was also named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18.
The Rice Soccer team is next on the road at C-USA league foe Western Kentucky on Thursday (Sept. 28). Start time against the Hilltoppers is set for 7 pm.
