This past weekend was a great one for Rice soccer: We came away with two wins and two shutouts. We opened the weekend with Texas Southern University on Thursday night, and were able to put away 12 goals during the 90 minute match. While TSU didn't challenge us technically, they showed us what true heart and work-rate is --- they never stopped working, regardless of the score. Plus, it was a great game for our reserves, all of whom got a tremendous amount of playing time and field experience. In fact, Fergie (Katlyn Ferguson) was able to tie the school-record of most goals scored in a game (three). We are all so proud!!!
This past Sunday (against Texas State) gave all of us a sense of redemption for our performance against Saint Louis in the previous week. We came out ready to play and put three goals in the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. Probably the best aspect of Sunday was the fact that we played the full 90 minutes, a concept the coaches have been emphasizing all week in practice.
The two wins have provided us some confidence going into this weekend's games, both of which are going to be big. We play Stephen F. Austin on Friday and then are traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska, in order to meet the University of Nebraska on their home turf. SFA has been playing extremely well and have been putting up some impressive outcomes against some of the top teams in the nation. As for Nebraska, we know that it is going to be a physical and very direct game. It will be our first road trip of the season. These are two big opportunities. I hope to be coming out of this weekend 5-1. I can't wait to see our fans Friday night!!!
