The Rice Soccer team's upcoming home game vs. crosstown rival Houston, originally scheduled for this Sunday (Aug. 27), has been cancelled due to weather conditions expected in the area this weekend.
The first regular season soccer meeting between the crosstown rivals since 2012 is officially cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Rice was able to beat the local weather by moving up its game vs. Baylor from its original Aug. 25 date to Thursday (Aug. 24). That contest finished in a 0-0 tie after two overtime periods with no complications from the weather.
"Both teams wanted to play this match, and the fans for both schools want to see Rice-Houston," said Owl head coach Nicky Adams. "It just didn't work out this time. We hope everyone in the city and state is safe from the weather this weekend."
