HOUSTON - The Rice soccer team held its first official fall practice of 2012 on Wednesday morning (Aug. 1). Head coach Nicky Adams welcomed back 18 returning letter-winners from last season's Owl squad that went 10-7-4 and reached the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament.
The Owls return nine of 11 starters from a year ago, including who earned all-Conference USA honors. The Blue & Gray are also bolstered by adding an outstanding incoming freshmen class.
The 2012 soccer season gets underway with a Blue-Gray scrimmage on August 11. Rice officially starts a week later (Aug. 17) with a home game against Baylor. The Bears are one of five 2012 opponents that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. Three of Rice's first five matches (a list that includes Baylor, LSU and Texas State) are against teams that advanced to the NCAA's in 2011.
