Incoming Rice soccer player Jenny Fichera has been named the 2013 Washtenaw County (Mich.) girls soccer Player of the Year by AnnArbor.com.
Fichera, who signed with Rice in February and joins the Owls this fall, led Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Mich., to an 11-1-1 record over the final 13 games of the season. Fichera finished with a total of 18 goals and 11 assists playing in the central midfield. Fichera was a second team Division 1 All-State selection by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches' Association.
Fichera is one of seven incoming freshmen joining the Rice soccer team this Fall. Under the direction of head coach Nicky Adams, the Owls won the 2012 Conference USA regular season championship and are coming off an 11-win season, the most wins the program has recorded in five years.
Rice soccer opens the 2013 season with an exhibition match on August 16 at home against the University of Houston. The Owls' first official game is set for August 23 at home against Stephen F. Austin.
