Rice soccer signee Gabi Iribarne has been invited to the Argentinean National Team camp announced the Asociacion del Futbol Argentino, Argentina's national governing body for the sport.
Iribarne has been invited to a camp that includes both the Argentinean U-20 and national women's team. The training camp begins on April 11 to pick and prepare Argentina's team that will compete in the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Iribarne, a senior at Laguna Hills High School in Mission Viejo, Calif., signed with Rice on Feb. 2, 2011. She was invited to Argentina's national team training camp in the summer of 2010 and served as a U-17 pool player for her country in 2009. As a California high school and club team player, she was ranked as the Top 100 players in the United States (No. 69) by TopDrawerSoccer.com, and as the No. 15 player in Southern California.
Recently another Rice signee, Quynh-Nhu Truong of Fort Worth, Tex., was invited to compete for a roster spot on the United States' U-18 National Team. The U.S. Women' U-18 National Team, under head coach April Heinrichs, is attempting to qualify for the 2012 U20 Women's World Cup in Uzbekistan.
"The experience that these two players are getting with their respective National Teams is only going to improve our overall program," said Rice head coach Nicky Adams. "Gabi and Quynh-Nhu are both excellent candidates for this amazing opportunity. We know that they will have an unbelievable showing and represent the quality and talented team that we have here at Rice University. It is very exciting to see, and proof of the high-level of player that we have coming into our program."
