HOUSTON - Visiting Colorado College scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute to claim a 4-3 Conference USA win in overtime against the Rice soccer team Friday night in Houston.
The Owls opened the scoring in the seventh minute on Quinny Truong's second goal of the season. Colorado College moved in front, 2-1, at the intermission. Rice tied the score and led the contest as late as the 71st minute after back-to-back second-half goals by Lauren Hughes and Jasmine Isokpunwu. Colorado College tied the contest 3-3 in the 72nd minute on a goal by Katie Utenishi. Jessie Ayers scored the game-winner for the Tigers in the 95th minute after a pass from Madison Whitehead.
Rice is now 5-6-2 overall and 3-3-0 in league play. Colorado College improved to 11-3-0 on the season and remained undefeated in conference at 6-0-0.
The Owls have concluded the home portion of their two weekend matches, and must now turn around and play its next one on the road. Rice travels to Miami, Fla., to play new league foe Florida International on Sunday (Oct. 20). Start time against the Golden Panthers is set for 12 noon Central Time.
