Personal -- Full name: Ruth Lia Seleznick. Parents: Mitchel and Nerina Seleznick of Tampa, Fla. (has one brother). Chose to attend Rice over the U.S. Naval Academy, Air Force, Florida, MIT, University of Chicago and Florida State
Rice Head Coach Nicky Adams said -- "Ruthie is one of the hardest working players that we saw on the 2013 recruiting trail. She is feisty, scrappy and tenacious, and always finds a way to do her job to the best of her ability. Ruthie is versatile enough to play as a holding midfielder or as a center back. She has a lethal flip throw which we are so excited to execute against opposing teams next season."
Clearwater Chargers coach Siggi Nagele said -- "National Signing Day is a bitter-sweet moment for me, as it means that Ruth has achieved her goal of attending a top-notch university to pursue her degree and soccer career! It is sweet because I know how much it means to her, how well she will represent Rice University, and what kind of player/person they are getting. It is bitter because I will no longer have the opportunity after this season to coach a very impressive young lady and human being. The effort she gives each and every day is phenomenal and she is a true difference maker in a game. Congratulations Rice University and take good care of her for me. I am very much looking forward to her continued development and success under your guidance!."
Ruth Seleznick said -- "I chose Rice because it gave me the opportunity to play Division I soccer at a school with remarkable academics. Rice became my first choice after camp because I felt so welcomed by the coaches and players. I loved the combination of intensity on the field and excitement off the field. Also, as a Florida girl, I'm so happy I will be staying in warm weather for college. I've been looking forward to attending Rice for a year and a half now, and I can't wait to be there!"
