Personal -- Full name: Delaney Schultz. Parents: Clark and Stacey Schultz of St. Louis, Missouri (one brother, one sister). Chose to attend Rice over Princeton, Cornell and Illinois.
Rice head coach Nicky Adams said -- “Delaney has a wonderful presence on the field. She is the energizer bunny that never stops running. She is tremendous with the ball at her feet and combines really well with her teammates. Delaney can play in multiple positions on the field. Whether she is taking players on 1 v 1 or providing service for her teammates Delaney will make a difference for our team."
SLSG Elite Program Director Ralph Richards said -- "When a player like Delaney is leaving our SLSG MO ECNL program, we wonder how and when we will ever replace her. Delaney is so much more than just a soccer player to this program. Obviously she has this ability on the field to turn any pass to her feet to something much more. Her technical and tactical ability to turn a defender inside out and get away from the opposition is incredible. She is so clean that it's as if the ball is stuck to her feet as she explodes by the defenders. Add this to her engine and work rate she brings to the team both with and without the ball. To me she is one of the best attacking CM's we have had at this club.
"In addition to her unquestioning soccer ability is the kind of person she is off the field. Delaney is genuine, humble, passionate, caring, and kind. In fact if you were to write down the definition of the perfect person and student athlete, you would would only have to write down `Delaney Schultz' and introduce people to her.
"Delaney will be missed by this program and honestly each and everyone of her teammates."
Delaney Schultz said -- "I chose Rice because it is not only an elite academic school, but also has an amazing soccer program. When I visited, the coaches and players were so welcoming and passionate about the program and I just loved the style of soccer they play. I fell in love with Rice's beautiful campus, the warm weather, and the atmosphere of Houston. I just knew it was the place I wanted to be!"
